Mr. Knowhow - history and story

Founding and early years
At the end of the Nineties Wim Ratering (guitar) and Arno Wegman (drums) met each other at school. Around the year 2000 they started to play music together. First they mostly played music from their favourite bands and musicians but later they also started to experiment with writing own songs. In 2006 Wim and Arno played a live show for the first time under the name of Mr. Knowhow at the contest 'Nationaal Sing Your Own Songfestival Nootuitgang'. A name that they picked just for this show by browsing through a dictionary. In the beginning there wasn't a permanent band but after some different musical projects Wim and Arno, together with Marck Kuiken (bass) founded a new band under the name of Mr. Knowhow in 2008. Wendy Bruin joined them as singer.

Out In The Open (2008-2010)
With a lot of musical ideas they started writing songs and forming a repertoire. After a try out show at the beginning of 2008 the band started playing more live shows. Four songs were recorded in home studios and were released at the beginning of 2009 on the EP Out In The Open. The release of Out In The Open was celebrated with two special release shows: a special live performance at RTV Noord and a semi acoustic show in bar Karakter in Groningen (NL). At the end of 2009 Wendy left the band. After a short search the band introduced Hanny Wolvekamp as new singer. Also Marck wasn't able to combine his work with the band and was replaced by Jeroen Buse on bass in 2010. One of the songs of Out In The Open - Remember - was re-released on the compilation album Riot On Sunset volume 20 of the American label 272 Records. In the second half of 2010 the band also started to play live shows again. In between the live shows the band worked on new music and at the end of 2010 they entered the studio for new recordings.

A Noise Revolution (2011-2013)
In February of 2011 Mr. Knowhow released their second EP A Noise Revolution with four new songs, which were recorded in December of 2010. The title A Noise Revolution explains the change from guitar pop to heavy rock with influences from hard rock. The EP was presented in April in the crowded venue 't Pierement in Sappemeer (NL). The EP was received well and is broadcasted often on local radio stations. Also the band played their first show in Germany. At the end of 2011 the band stopped playing gigs with Jeroen being absent for a long time. There isn't a lot of news untill in 2012 the band announced that Jeroen will not return to Mr. Knowhow. Jeroen was replaced by Phil Russell who already had been rehearsing and performing with the band during the absence of Jeroen. During the year 2013 the band alternated playing live shows and started with new song writing sessions.

Mk III Analog (2014-now)
After a period of song writing sessions and pre production the band started the year 2014 with recording new music in the studio. In the studio five new songs were recorded. To remain the energetic live feeling the songs were recorded analog and mostly in a live setting. In May of 2014 the new songs were released on the EP Mk III Analog. The new EP was presented during a special broadcast on de local radio station Omroep Odrie and at a special live show in the venue Punt 1 in Leek (NL). After that more live shows followed. Mk III Analog was picked up by different radio stations and the music was often broadcasted (airplay but also live sets during the broadcasts). The song Sweet Mama even made it into the Indie Chart of radio Indie XL. The remain the full sound of Mk III Analog on stage Wim Huizenga joined the band at the end of 2015 as extra guitarist. After a period of five years the band said goodbye to Phil at two special live shows. Phil had decided to seek his musical challenges somewhere else in an other genre. Marck Kuiken returned to the band as bass player in early 2017. At this moment the band continues  playing energetic live shows and started writing new songs with the new line up. In 2018 the band celebrates its 10 year anniversary.
